Motorcycle enthusiast Ewan McGregor took time off from shooting Miss Potter to purchase a vintage racing bike from a museum in the Isle of Man. |
Ewan couldn’t resist visiting the British island’s famous TT rally museum which houses the motorcycle for the famous Isle of Man TT race through a dangerous mountain circuit. Luckily he made the visit just in time as the owner was selling off his priceless collection. |
“They’ve raced there since 1902 right back when Beatrice Potter was alive. And it goes through several villages and through this mountain section. It’s an extraordinarily dangerous race. And there’s a museum at the very top of the hill at the top of the circuit and there’s also like every day roads. Anyway there’s a museum up there at the top of the hill and I went to visit it, a motorcycle museum and the guy who ran it opened it especially for me because he was shutting it and was selling all the bikes. I went, ‘Oh no!’ I phoned my wife and said, ‘I’ve gone to this museum and you know he’s selling all the bikes.’ She went, ‘Oh no!’ And I bought a 1929 Rex Acme TT racing bike, 350 single. It’s a beautiful piece of machinery; beautiful. I’ve got it running and I’ve been riding around London.” |
Ewan has confirmed he and pal Charlie Boorman are planning another biking documentary following the success of Long Way Around which will begin in the north of Scotland down to Cape Town in South Africa visiting UNICEF charity projects along the way. |
