EMILIO ESTEVEZ HOPES BOBBY INSPIRES AMERICA
Bobby tells the story leading up to the 1968 California primary campaign party for Senator Robert F. Kennedy until he was shot in the kitchen of The Ambassador Hotel. Writer and director Emilio Estevez talks about why he was inspired to recreate the historic moment and how Bobby’s death has caused a rippling affect in America today. |
Emilio hopes that the film will reinspire America and that young people will see that there were true believers like Bobby Kennedy who stood for leadership. |
“The death of Bobby Kennedy is in many ways the death of decency in America, the death of poetry, the death of formality and manners. Somewhere along the way between 1963 and 1968, and ’68 was truly the year that shook the world I think we lost our way. I think we unraveled culturally. We’re craving a voice and I don’t care where that voice comes from whether it comes from the left or the right or the center. But I think people are angry and certainly discontent with the current situation.” |
Bobby opens in select cities on Friday. |
“He was the guy who stood up for the little guy. He was tough and he told the truth and he wasn’t afraid of gaffs. He wasn’t afraid of a misstep. I think that people knew that he was genuine, knew that he was speaking from his heart and that’s what made him so unique.” |
