ELISABETH WITHERS PLEASED WITH SET UP TIME
Color Purple star pleased that her label took their time to set up her debut solo album…. |
Color Purple star Elisabeth Withers made the jump from the theater to the recording industry this week with the release of her debut solo album, It Can Happen To Anyone, on Tuesday, January 30th. The singer is still promoting the lead single from the project, “Be With You,” and has leaked a second single, “Simple Things.” |
Withers explained that she was pleased her label, Blue Note Records, decided to release the project in January to allow for more set up time. She said, |
“January, I believe that they chose that because as Bruce Lunval said and my management team said, they wanted more set up time which I think is very wise. A first artist coming out, it doesn’t matter if you’re a star on Broadway or not, you need set up time. You need enough time for people to go, ‘Who is she, okay where can I go see her, what is the song that she sang?’ And it’s funny now and I’m so glad that’s why you hire the people that you hire. You hire good people. I’m so glad cause at first I was like, ‘No it has to come out in the summer. No you gotta fourth quarter.’ You know but I’m so glad that they did it when they did it becuase now when I go in and do my live performances, like I just did B.B. King’s and the first couple of songs I sang, they were like, ‘Okay nice voice, nice performance.’ But soon as I sang ‘Be With You’ it was like ‘Yeah!’ They knew the song and it was like, ‘Oh that’s what tehy mean by set up time.'” |
The singer will be performing selections from the new album next Monday, February 5th, at Joe’s Pub in New York City. |
