EDDIE MURPHY HAS DREAM COME TRUE
Eddie Murphy says it was a dream come true to make the film Dreamgirls. |
Eddie Murphy struts his stuff as James Thunder Early, the 1960s R&B crooner who takes the Dreamettes to be his back ground singers in the movie musical Dreamgirls based on the 1981 award winning Broadway show. |
Eddie says he had the potential to be an international star. |
“Jimmy Early is an up and coming R&B singer kind of like right on the edge of having something, and some national exposure in the singing community.” |
Eddie gets to sing and dance as Jimmy Early, a far cry from voicing the donkey in Shrek. He says being in Dreamgirls was, well a dream come true. |
“For me having made pictures for 25 years I’ve been making movies. I’m getting to be like the old Jackson in movies. It’s rare that you get to be in something like this that you dream about being in and something like this with the cast that’s this strong, a director that’s this strong. Like I said I’ve been making movies for a long time and just to come to be involved with a piece of material like this; that’s a dream come true.” |
Cleavant Derricks won the Tony on Broadway for the role Murphy is playing in the film. Next year is a triple header for Eddie who has the comedy Norbit and two Shrek projects, Shrek the Third for film and Shrek The Halls for television. |
