EAGLES OF DEATH METAL READY TO UNLEASH HEART ON
Eagles of Death Metal are set to release their upcoming album “Heart On” and it follows 2006’s “Death by Sexy.” Eagles of Death Metal are built around a strong musical friendship between Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme (Hohm-mee), who have been friends since childhood. Although Homme doesn’t always tour with the band due to his busy schedule with Queens of the Stone Age, he produced “Heart On” and once again had a major hand in the songwriting. |
We caught up with lead vocalist and guitarist Jesse Hughes, AKA The Devil, to get his thoughts on “Heart On” being a step up in songwriting from “Death by Sexy.” |
“The first album was basically directly me from my bedroom to an actual studio and the second album was me ripping off The Rolling Stones a little bit better. This album is just a step up and that’s kind of what Josh said to me. It’s kind of the first album where I go to equally input it with my partner Joshua Homme, which is the coolest thing for me. This album was scary for me because it is a little bit deeper in terms of the songwriting. Now that I kind of know what I’m doing, there’s no excuse so I kind of upped the bar. I love what I do and I take it seriously in a lot of ways, I just don’t take myself seriously so it makes it fun.” |
We also talked with Jesse about the fun he has with Josh Homme in the band. |
“This album I brought most of the songs, I bring all the songs but they grow and they go someplace and that’s two people you know. Really Eagles of Death Metal is about two friends having their s**ts and giggles and the best time of their life and living the dream. I can’t imagine a cornier way to put it but I also can’t imagine a more accurate way to put it.” |
Jesse also talked about his long friendship with Josh, which was forged over 25 years ago in Palm Desert, California. |
“That’s the most special relationship I have. I mean outside of my son. He’s my brother you know and he’s my best friend. He really is and he’s really been my best friend for about twenty five years starting with him stopping the bullies from taking my lunch money and he’s kind of been doing it ever since.” |
The first single off “Heart On” is “Wannabe in LA” and the album is due to be released Tuesday, October 21st. The Eagles of Death Metal will celebrate the album’s release with a special in-store performance at The Virgin Megastore in Hollywood, California on October 20th at 11pm. The band will kick off their tour in support of “Heart On” on October 30th in Seattle, Washington. Dates run through November 25th in Houston, Texas. Look for Eagles to announce more tour dates for 2009. |
