Dweezil Zappa took home a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, which were held Feb 8th, and an emotional Zappa dedicated the award to his late father, guitarist Frank Zappa. The Grammy, which was for the instrumental song “Peaches En Regalia,” comes full circle for Dweezil as forty years ago his father dedicated the album this track was originally a part of to his new born son. |
During an untelevised portion of the Grammy Awards, Dweezil was trying to hold his emotions together as he thanked his late father. |
“Thank you very much. Obviously this means a lot. I’m trying to keep it together. This particular song means a lot. It’s forty years old and it was on the record that was dedicated to me when I was born, so I’m dedicating it right back. Thanks to my family, my mom Gail and my brothers and sisters and of course my wife and my two daughters and thanks to the band for making it happen.” |
Zappa Plays Zappa went up against David Gilmour for “Castellorizon,” Metallica for “Suicide and Redemption,” Nine Inch Nails for “34 Ghosts I-IV” and Rush for “Hope (Live for the Art of Peace).” Dweezil Zappa organized the “Zappa Plays Zappa” tour, as he tries to bring the music of Frank Zappa to a younger audience. The tour has featured guest appearances by Steve Vai, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ray White and Terry Bozzio. Zappa Plays Zappa will kick off another run of tour dates beginning Feb 26th in Phoenix, Arizona and extending until March 7th in Santa Rosa, California. Zappa Plays Zappa are also set to tour Japan and Australia in April of 2009. |
