Hilary and Haylie Duff play sisters on screen for the first time in Material Girls as spokes models of their late father’s cosmetics company. Acting together was second nature to the singing sisters who would communicate with each other on set through their secret language.

Even their director Martha Coolidge was left out of the loop. The Material Girls opens Friday in theaters nationwide.rn

Haylie: “That was something that we started when we were kids. Hilary: Some other people know it though but not many people. It’s easy to be on set with each other and to be able to tell each other like give each other advice or if I don’t have enough energy Haylie will be like (in gibberish) this is an important scene bump it up. Haylie: Maybe we don’t want to say it in front of other people. Not that it’s mean. It’s just like little things for us to help each other out. Hilary: Or something might make us laugh on set and we don’t want everyone to know about it. We’ll say, (talks gibberish). Hilary: Translated I said, ‘look at that person over there which is really mean and Haylie said, ‘Hilary you talk really fast.’ That’s what she just said to me. So we can have little jokes and secrets. It’s really lame actually. Haylie: Like most sisters do I think. It is dorky I think. Hilary: But what if we wanted to say something to each other
