DRESDEN DOLLS SET TO RELEASE VIRGINIA
Dresden Dolls, comprised of Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, are set to release a brand new album, Yes, Virginia in April. The new collection takes the point of view of a child who asks the editor of the New York Sun if there was a Santa Claus. Both the question and the answer fuel the title and the theme of the album. |
The band released their self-titled album in 2004, and are following it up with a major push from Roadrunner Records and an album that showcases their increasing musical maturity. Vocalist/songwriter Amanda Palmer talked about the differences between their musicality on the first album and on the soon-to-be-released Yes, Virgina. |
“Almost nothing. The thing that’s different is our execution because Brian and I are a much tighter unit now. Back then we probably didn’t play with a fraction fo the confidence that we play with now, and that really comes out in the sound.” |
Drummer Brian Viglione said that working as a duo takes an adjustment as to what a drummer is supposed to do. |
“It’s sort of in the opposite direction of playing with a larger ensemble. Playing with just one other person is a real discipline in how to play just enough to not step on the other, and I think that the first couple of years of the band there was a lot of experimenting, a lot of just exploring going on. I think that the playing is a little more succinct, in place, definitely.” |
Dresden Dolls have a unique relationship with their rabid fanbase. The duo recently solicited artwork for the April 26 release from their faithful. Each panel of the booklet includes original images submitted to the band that were directly inspired by the songs. |
