DRAKE BELL GETS PERSONAL LESSON FROM ROGER DALTREY OF THE WHO
Drake Bell turned from actor to musician once he got some pointers and lessons in music history from the one and only Roger Daltrey of The Who. |
Drake Bell is best known for his work on the Nickelodeon program Drake and Josh, but he’s also an accomplished actor that has starred in Jerry Maguire,, Changing Destiny, and High Fidelity among others. Now he’s embarking on a solo career with the release of his first full-length album titled It’s Only Time. |
Bell’s transition from actor to musician actually started with meeting Roger Daltrey, singer for the legendary band The Who, while on the set filming Changing Destiny. |
“You know they were like, ‘You know, Roger is in this movie.’ I was like, ‘What?!! Do you know how much more this makes me want this part now. And so, we got on set and he was just amazing. He was just so cool. He was totally like a mentor. He would come over and sit next to you and pick up the gutiar and show you stuff and tell me stories about shooting Tommy and how crazy this guy was and that guy.. It really surprised me how humble he was. I was like, ‘You know Roger, it was you The [Rolling] Stones and The Beatles, what was that like?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, no. There was Brian [Wilson] too of the Beach Boys…’ and he starts telling me about all these other musicians that I need to listen to and need to be into. He wasn’t like, ‘Oh, it was great. We were the best,’ he was like ‘Oh, no, no. You need to check out these other artists and see who else really mattered at that time.” |
The meeting certainly changed the destiny of a then 12 year old Bell. The transition to musician certainly was evidenced on the Drake And Josh Show, where Bell displayed his musical talents and wrote the show’s theme, “Found A Way.” Bell will be performing his pop/classic rock tinged tracks on tour next year. Bell’s new effort It’s Only Time hits most retail stores December 5. |
