DONNA MURPHY WANTS NANNY DIARIES, THE MUSICAL

Musical theater star Donna Murphy would love to see a musical version of The Nanny Diaires.

In The Nanny Diaries, Scarlett Johansson’s Nanny takes hold of an umbrella and flies through the streets of Manhattan when she gets her job taking care of Mr. and Mrs. Exes’ son.

For musical theater maven Donna Murphy, who plays Scarlett’s mom in the film, this was an obvious reference to Mary Poppins.

“Nanny Diaries, The Musical, Well I hope they cast me in it because you know I love to sing and Scarlett loves to sing. Harvey wanted us to have a little duet. He would come on the set every once in a while and say, ‘can’t they do a little something. You know they both sing?’ So Nanny Diaries, The Musical why not? Mary Poppins is one of my favorite movies and my daughter loves it. So why not? Chim chimney.”

Ironically Donna adopted her daughter just months before she began The Nanny Diaries so she was doing her own soul searching in terms of hiring her own nanny.

“I myself I can’t imagine that if I didn’t have to work. I mean I do something I love to do and so I’m happy to do it and I look forward to going to work but if I didn’t have to work I probably would do it every once in a while and be home 80% of the time with my daughter. It’s hard for me to relate to a woman who would want someone to take care of their child 24/7 while they were planning benefits to benefit other children which is wonderful but what about taking care of your own child?”

The Nanny Diaries is currently playing in theaters.
