Rapper and actor DMX has jumped ship. After months of speculation and a very public discussion about how Jay-Z’s appointment as president of Def Jam Records has placed a strain on their relationship, DMX has decided to leave Def Jam Records. MTV.com reports that the rapper has signed a new deal with the Sony Music Group. Interestingly enough, DMX had a single deal with Columbia/Sony Records in the early 90s before making it big with Ruff Ryders and Def Jam Records.

DMX, who is currently serving a seventy day prison sentence for a probation violation, was suppose to release a new album, Here We Go Again, earlier this year but the set was shelved indefinitely.rn

DMX holds the Billboard record for consecutive Number One debuts as all five of his albums have entered the charts at Number One. The rapper has sold over 15 million albums during his career.
