DJ QUIK RELEASES INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT
Rapper and producer DJ Quik is celebrating his fifteenth year in the recording industry. The rapper released his platinum debut, Quik Is The Name, in 1991. Last week DJ Quik released, Trauma: Instrumentals, on his own Mad Science label. The album was initially released last September. In addition to doing his own thing, DJ Quik has been moonlighting as The Game’s deejay for select dates. |
DJ Quik shared how he broke into the recording industry in the late ’80s by selling tapes out of the backseat of his car. The producer said, |
“Well the action was in, doing like underground tapes. You know recording tapes out the house and selling them really out of the trunk of our cars or out of the backseat in this case, it was only cassettes. You know we got a little buzz doing that. People started like digging it, you know digging what we was doing so we started specializing the tapes so we’d know they’d sell. We’d put certain people names in it and stuff. They’d hear they’re name and it’s an automatic sale so I guess that was a good marketing ploy back then.” |
