Last week Sean “Diddy” Combs made history when he became the first African American to win the Men’s Fragrance of the Year award at the Fragrance Foundation’s 35th Annual FiFi Awards in New York. Combs said, “Somebody from fashion had come up to me, an African-American man and he had tears in his eyes because the fashion industry is such a segregated industry and he was just stating that I didn’t realize that I was the first African American to ever win this award. I’ve won Grammys and other awards, but to really win this award is a crazy honor. It’s a part of history so it feels great.” |
In September, Combs plans to release Unforgivable for women and he will have a major launch for his Sean John women’s line in department stores across the country. |
“Back then with Diddy we were all like I think 17 years-old. BIG was here. We was just watching BIG and seeing everything go on in there. When we was with Diddy, we didn’t know too much about the game.” |
In related news, Combs took the stage at WQHT-FM’s Hot 97 Summer Jam last weekend and he didn’t disappoint. He brought out T.I., Young Dro, Keyshia Cole, Elephant Man and Yung Joc during his set. Giant Stadium erupted when he invited the Lox and Lil Kim out to perform their classic, “It’s All About The Benjamins.” |
“But at the time we was like, ‘Yo dog we wrote you “The Benjamins.” We writing you, “Victory.” We wrote. Your hits we wrote.’ Myself, you know what I’m sayin’, Missy can verify stuff. That’s why we had little issues here and there and you know his whole image of how he wanted us to be.” |
Prior to the show, the Lox’s Sheek Louch shared what it was like when the group signed with Bad Boy Records in 1995. He said, |
He also shared that the group eventually fell out with Diddy over songwriting and the image of the group he wanted to promote. He said, |
