DEFTONES RECORDING NEXT ALBUM WHILE ON 2007 TOUR?
Deftones nearly broke up during the recording process for Saturday Night Wrist, and they may record the next one on the road |
Deftones are wrapping up the last of their U.S. dates today, December 19, in Minneapolis, and they’ve already booked dates for 2007. |
Most of the dates announced so far take place in Europe, but Chi Cheng says they’ll be back in the U.S. to play small clubs. |
“Yeah, it’ll be a 30-40 date tour. It’s not going to be… It’s going to be small hardcore in your face for our fans. Yeah, it’s a lot of crowd interaction and, yeah, I think I shed an extra five pounds of sweat in a small club a night.” |
Cheng was asked if there was anything special he does these days to get ready for shows. |
“As far as show preparation goes? Nah. Same old thing for me. Put on some old man oil to loosen me up, stretch a little bit, pull out a cigarette… Same as it ever was.” |
Cheng did admit that the studio experience was so bad, they’re actually working on getting their next album done during their tour in support of Saturday Night Wrist. |
“We’re talking about doing the next album on this whole touring cycle, and I really don’t know just if we have the responsibility… I don’t know if we’re responsible enough to do that, so we’ll see.” |
Deftones have a nice break before returning February 2 in Mexico City for the start of their world tour. U.S. dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. |
