DAVID FINCHER FACES THE ZODIAC KILLER
Zodiac director David Fincher was the perfect choice to tell the story of the serial killer because he was there. Fincher grew up in San Francisco during the same time the Zodiac was terrorizing neighborhoods within miles of his home. |
Jake Gyllenhaal says Fincher’s first hand knowledge was an advantage for the realistic look of the film, sometimes shooting in actual locations where the Zodiac struck. |
“I think David’s vision in terms of the time period and in terms of all his information and his knowledge about the case and all the people involved in it, it’s extraordinary. The shots and just the look of the whole film, it really does feel as if you’re in that time.” |
Jake says Fincher had fears that the Zodiac killer was going to show up at his grade school. |
“And I think that has a lot to do with David obviously growing up during that time and knowing about the Zodiac, experiencing those things. I mean he told me that he remembers police cars following his school bus because when the Zodiac threatened school children’s lives and said he was gonna pick off little kids when they got out of the school bus. He remembers all those things and by osmosis it sort of oozed into this film.” |
Fincher moved away from Marin County in 1974 but never escaped the Zodiac’s haunting until now delving into the mystery which can be seen in the film. |
