DAVID BANNER MAY NOT GET CERTIFIED

Rihanna talked about the tour she’s kicking off in support of A Girl Like Me, which was certified Gold. Keywords: Unfaithful, SOS, Field Mob, All My Children.

David Banner had big plans for his latest album, Certified. The set’s lead single, “Play, peaked at Number Seven on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart which makes the song the rapper’s highest charting mainstream release to date. Unfortunately for Banner, the success of “Play” hasn’t translated into album sales. Although Certified debuted at Number Six on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the set has sold a disappoiniting 220,000 copies since it was released in September according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Banner explained how bittersweet the release of the album was following Hurricane Katrina which left his home state of Mississippi in shambles. The rapper said,

“Certified, man, one of the biggest albums in history man. You know it’s crazy because it’s one of the best timesin my life and one of worst times in my life so I’m just dealing with it.”

Even if Certified doesn’t take -off, the rapper doesn’t have to worry as he is an in demand producer and an aspiring actor. Banner has spent the past month in Memphis shooting, Black Snake Moan, with Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer. The film also stars Justin Timberlake, Christina Ricci, and Samuel L. Jackson.
