David Banner is currently in Memphis on the set of his first feature film, Black Snake Moan. The comedy, which is being directed by Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer, was inspired by a 1920’s song by blues legend Blind Lemon Jefferson. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, and Justin Timberlake. |
In addition to the acting gig, Banner has been busy raising money for his home state of Mississippi which was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. So far the rapper has put together two ‘Heal The Hood’ benefits to raise money and he explained how the second benefit, which was in New York City, turned out. The rapper said, |
“The New York Times called it may be one of the biggest urban relief concerts of all times and I thank God for allowing me to even be a part of it man. It was phenomenal. Seventeen urban artists, it was all of the urban radio outlets together simultaneously broadcasting at the same time. That has never happen and just to have any part to do with it, it was a blessing man.” |
