DAVE NAVARRO HELPING AN OLD FRIEND FALL TO PIECES
Janes Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has already Janes Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro helped out an old friend, Mary Forsberg Weiland, on her recent autobiography “Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Mental Illness” and it tells her life’s struggles when drug abuse and bi polar disorder. Mary, who is Stone Temple Pilot vocalist Scott Weiland’s ex wife, ask Dave Navarro to contribute a few stories back in their darker days of drug abuse in the early 90’s. Navarro, who already wrote a book of his own “Don’t Try This at Home” about his battles with addiction, jumped at the chance when Mary approached him to contribute to her autobiography. |
Artisan News caught up with Dave Navarro at Mary Weilands’ reading and book signing in Hollywood, Ca to get his thoughts on why he thought “Fall to Pieces” was such a great idea. |
“Mary approached me about putting some stories in the book about my experiences with her and Scott and I was a hundred percent up for it. I put out a book of my own about my struggles with drug addiction and that went on to help a lot of people. And so her book dealing primarily with mental illness and bi polar disorder and so forth and I too have been diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I thought what a great, amazing book to speak to the younger generation about getting some support and finding a solution, light at the end of the tunnel. So, yeah when she approached me about including some of my stories I was more than happy to lend a hand.” |
Dave Navarro also talked about humor being part of the healing. |
“In hind sight and with time and distance between those stories and where we’re at today, it’s really amazing to experience the laughter and find the humor in those things. That’s part of the healing. When Mary was telling some of those stories about her experiences with me in the past she was reading from the podium and people were laughing. I was laughing and she was laughing. In the moment it seems to be so life threatening and compelling and larger than life and insurmountable in hindsight is often times very, very entertaining, light and it really teaches you that you can get through things and not only can you get through them but you can get through them with some humor and perspective.” |
