DAVE MATTHEWS PUTS TOGETHER CONCERT FOR VIRGINIA TECH
After performing once again at one of America’s finest outdoor venues, The Gorge in George, Washington during Labor Day Weekend, The Dave Matthews Band took their amazing live show back East for ‘A Concert for Virginia Tech,’ which was held September 6th at Lane Stadium on the campus of Virginia Tech. Dave Matthews, who proposed the concert soon after a student gunman killed 32 people and himself on campus April 16, chose the lineup to demonstrate the diversity of Virginia Tech’s student body by bringing friends John Mayer, Nas and Phil Vassar to the bill. Each performer donated their time, and students, faculty and staff members of Virginia Tech were offered a free ticket to the concert at Lane Stadium. Those who got free tickets had the option to buy one as well as 5,000 seats were offered to the public. A special section was also set up for family members of those killed and students who were injured in America’s deadliest school shooting rampage in history. Dave Matthews, who lives in the Pacific Northwest, actually formed his band in Virginia and got his start playing fraternity parties at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. |
A few days after a ‘Concert for Virginia Tech’ Dave Matthews hooked up with Tim Reynolds to perform at 2007’s Farm Aid in New York. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds have just released a DVD of a live performance from Radio City Music Hall in New York earlier this year and it’s the duo’s first live DVD together. The Dave Matthews Band will continue on with their Summer Tour, which will conclude at The Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, California for two shows October 1st and 2nd. |
Photographer Brian Miller was on hand to capture The Dave Matthews Band at The Gorge on August 31st, 2007. The bands 3 show run at The Gorge featured guest appearances from guitarists Robert Randolph and Joe Lawlor as well as versions of new songs ‘Cornbread’ and ‘Eh Hee.’ Dave’s new ATO/RCA Records single ‘Eh Hee’ and its accompanying video made their worldwide debut earlier this month exclusively on the iTunes. With ‘Eh Hee,’ Matthews handles all vocals and instruments on the track and makes his directorial debut with the video. Matthews and co-director and longtime lighting director, Fenton Williams, shot the video in a Seattle warehouse in July, recruiting local modern dance troupe zoe juniper to perform. The studio version of ‘Eh Hee’ is being released simply as a single, independent of any album and a live version of the song appears on the DVD ‘Live At Radio City.’ |
