DANIEL RADCLIFFE DEALS WITH FLIES AND NUDITY
Daniel Radcliffe deals with the elements in the Australian Outback for his latest film. |
Eighteen year-old Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe plays a different kind of orphan in December Boys who gets a Christmas reprieve from the Catholic convent to visit a kindly family on Kangaroo Island in Australia. |
Daniel talks about having to handle pesty insects on the remote location. |
“When we were on Kangaroo Island there’s not a huge amount to do recreationally there.rnThe flies were incredible. I mean a scene had to be cut because of the amount of flies on the camera and on the actors and on the crew. It was just unbelievable. The sand dunes were amazing. They’re about 60 foot tall and you just can’t look straight at them because they’re so bright when the sun hits them. Running and jumping off them was great fun.” |
In December Boys Daniel has his first love scene on screen with Teresa Palmer and a mooning scene. Both were excellent preparation for his upcoming bow on Broadway in Equus where he will be completely in the buff. |
“Yeah sort of. The nudity thing on stage was never something that particularly worried me. Obviously you’re gonna be nervous about that because anybody would be but once you accept you’re gonna do it and you’re just gonna go out there and do it no matter what happens, you stop worrying about it. I asked Gary Oldman when we were working together on Harry Potter five, I said to him ‘what’s it like going naked on stage,’ because I know he’s done it. And he just said, ‘well the first night you’ll be terrified and the second night you’ll be terrified and after that you won’t care.’ Which is exactly what happens. You get used to it really quickly.” |
Getting naked for a New York audience will be quite a different experience from working in London’s West End, but Daniel is excited about the prospect. December Boys opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, September 14th with a wider release September 28th. |
