DANE COOK CAN PLAY EVIL
Comedian Dane Cook takes a dramatic and evil turn in Mr. Brooks. |
Dane Cook takes on the dramatic role of Mr. Smith in Mr. Brooks playing a photographer who witnesses the serial killer murdering his neighbor. Instead of turning him in, he decides to unleash his own darkness and learn from the master. |
Dane had a similar experience as he is mostly known for being a light-hearted comedian and felt it was time to let his fans witness a different side of him. |
“It’s not a comedy and people primarily know me as being a funny guy after 17 years of stand-up comedy and I said, ‘I’m really chomping at the bit to get out and show people other facets of my creative persona.’” |
Dane has always been extremely observant to the world around him in his comedy writing which came in handy when finding the character. |
“I had a real beat on this character. I felt like I knew this guy, not to the point of somebody who was caught up in a killing spree or to that level but I knew people who I felt teetered on the edge of right and wrong, that ying and yang. So I pulled some ideas from people in my travels and just delivered what I thought was the take on this character.” |
Dane hopes his fan base will accept him as a serious actor but he hasn’t given up comedy just yet. His next film Good Luck Chuck is a romantic comedy coming out this summer with Jessica Alba. |
