DADDY’S LITTLE GIRLS STRENGTHENS FATHERHOOD FOR IDRIS ELBA
The Wire star Idris Elba stars as a single father of three girls struggling to make ends meet to raise them when the courts award custody to their drug dealing mother in Daddy’s Little Girls. |
As a single father himself Idris related to the story of doing whatever it takes to be a responsible dad. |
“My feelings towards fatherhood were magnified if anything. Being a father myself and living Monty’s story I have one daughter, he has three kids, I really had to appreciate what single fathers do myself included so it just magnified what that situation is. There are so many kids who will be 20 in 10 years time that are gonna be able to say, ‘you know where my father raised me,’ so it really opened me up.” |
Making Daddy’s Little Girls also widened Elba’s perspective of what makes a good father which he tries to apply to his own relationship with his daughter. |
“As far as being a good father you know communication with my daughter is so important. I always want to give my daughter a platform of her to talk to her dad. And I want her to like school just be able to do whatever she wants, fall on her face in front of her daddy, get up, brush herself off and start again. I love the idea of being able to talk with my child. And in this film we see Monty with three girls that are very vocal kids. You know they tell him what’s going on and that’s really important.” |
Next Idris stars in the horror sci-fi film The Reaping as a scientist and partner to Hilary Swank’s university professor who demystifies miracles. |
