CUTE IS WHAT WE AIM FOR ENTERS TOP ALBUM ROTATION
Cute Is What We Aim For will enter the Billboard 200 rotation, where is still being decided as the band talks about the new effort. |
Cute Is What We Aim For have released their new album Rotation, and it follows in the footsteps of their breakthrough effort The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch. The new effort is catered mainly towards the youngsters, and soundscan may be undercutting their digital impact with tallies around 10,000 units sold halfway through the process according to precursor chart HitsDailyDouble.com. The band has undergone member changes, but it was other factors that affected the songs on the new album. |
Vocalist Shaant was asked about the pressures regarding Rotation. |
“I think the only pressure we experienced on this one was the pressure to write songs, not even good songs, or taking the next step, just enough material to put together a full length album. We really like to come up with a whole bunch of ideas and then get into the studio and have a pressure cooker system in which we all kind of get ’em out and off our chest. We only went into the studio with one song but there were like twenty different little ideas. There was no pressure from the outside. Some people say the Sophomore slump, but we didn’t care at all. We’re so fortunate to be where we are. We never thought we’d get here, so we might as well appreciate what we have and where we are instead of worry about the excess.” |
We also asked bassist Dave and Shaant if working quickly in the studio led them to be a little hasty. |
[Dave] “I think that the way that the album came out was natural. I think that’s the best word to use for it because I don’t think that it was done in haste. We definitely thought about everything we recorded, I think, much more than on the first album, wouldn’t you say?” [Shaant] We had three months on this album, as opposed for the last album three weeks.” [Dave] “So it wasn’t done quickly, I wouldn’t say that’s what happened, I would just say that we just followed whatever was coming out instead of aiming for something and then trying to get closer to it. It’s just whatever came out we went with it and refined it.” |
So did they compare The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch to Rotation when making the record? Shaant and guitarist Jeff explain. |
[Shaant] “I did comparisons of, ‘Oh man, I like this so much better than the last one.’ Jeff is the one who comes up with a lot of the chord structures and stuff like that. So, did you do that because it’s different this time around?” [Jeff] “It is. It’s just different inspirations. When we started touring for the first time I was listening to bands in our genre only, and since we started touring I got more out there and listening to older stuff and stuff I wouldn’t have listened to. So I think that had a lot to do with it.” |
Cute Is What We Aim For has a re-vamped line-up and is currently on a headline tour around the U.S. Check back in the weeks to come as the band talks about their line-up, their new look, and their buddies Panic At The Disco. |
