Common, T.I., and RZA hold their own alongside Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.. |
Common, RZA, and T.I. are three of the stars of the new movie, American Gangster, which opens on Friday, November 2nd. The three rappers had to really flex their acting chops considering they were starring opposite to Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. |
Common, who played the brother of Washington’s Frank Lucas character and father to T.I. in the film, explained the challenges of pulling it off. He said, |
“With him playing my son that was kind of funny though. I was like man this dude…I ain’t that much older than T.I. like that. But you know we worked it out and we got into character for that and it worked out real cool you know. I had him when I was young. That’s all that happened but working with T.I. he definitely brought that soul and improversation that I was talking about that people from the hip hop background, you know, have had. Knowing that RZA was a part of it, I got to just you know really just rap with him a little bit about just being part of this movie. we both was saying, it’s a big step for us.” |
T.I. added, |
“I mean Common is a cool cat. You know we actually worked together on my last album. You know he is a cool cat, one of the coolest. I mean you know they make him up man to where he presents himself to be older than, you know what I’m sayin’, than he really is. I think it’s great cast. You know RZA is involved as well. You got Ruby Dee, of course Denzel, Russell Crowe and of course one of the greatest directors of all time, you know what I’m sayin’, Ridley Scott. It’s really my internship. I’m fetching coffee and taking notes, you know what I’m sayin’? I’m happy to be here.” |
