COBRA STARSHIP VIVA LA COBRA HELPED BY FOB AND GYM CLASS
Cobra Starship’s Viva La Cobra hits stores October 23, but was the album helped by Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes? |
Cobra Starship is set to release their new effort Viva La Cobra! on October 23, and it’s the band’s second album in as many years. The band worked hand in hand with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, who produced the album, and much of it was written while traveling and performing together on the Honda Civic Tour earlier in the year. |
We asked band mastermind Gabe Saporta and bandmate Ryland Blackinton about Stump’s involvement in the album. |
[Saporta] “Yeah, he was straight up. He wasn’t an executive producer, he was the producer, producer. He was like another member of the band on this record.” [Blackinton] “The thing about Patrick is that even though he didn’t necessarily have all the time in the world, all the time that he has…. He’s always on the clock.” [Saporta] “He was only in the studio four or five days but like came in and really finished up the record and made it solid. He really took the songs to the level where they need to be.” |

And kids loved that title. It kind of leaked by accident. So it was a great title and everyone loved it, but no one was remembering what it was….’we’re gonna have a party? What?’ Patrick was there and Pete Wentz was there and we were trying to come up with a title, and everyone’s throwing in their ideas, giving their opinions, really talking about it, and then [Gym Class Heroes mastermind] Travis [McCoy] waltzes in and he starts talking, ‘Hey, guess what? I’m going to be on the VMAs this year, I’m playing. We’re going to play ‘Clothes Off’ and I’m going do an intro with ‘Viva La White Girl,’ and I’m like, ‘God! ‘Viva La Cobra! That’s it!,’ and he looks at me (with a suspicious look), and I’m like, ‘Come on, let me have it. Let me have it.’ And so he let me ha |
Cobra Starship will be heading out on the Sleeping With Giants tour featuring The Academy Is… The Starship will land on the tour starting October 23, the same day as Viva La Cobra!’s release. |
