CHUCK D HELPS USHER IN DEFINITIVE 200
Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared Monday, March 12th, Definitive 200 Day in New York City in honor of the 200 albums that have been selected as must haves by the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and N.A.R.M. Chuck D attended the press conference in honor of the event and shared his thoughts on It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back, Public Enemy’s 1998 Def Jam release which was selected as one of the 200. |
Chuck D said, |
“We wanted to be able to make a cohesive album from beginning to end and also with other things other than just music back to back. So we instituted the whole realm of almost like James Brown Live at the Apollo, we took excerpts from the Live In London. We wanted to show people that there were other places other than United States that was on top of the game. Basically it was a message to the United States, ‘If ya’ll don’t follow us, we already got it going on.’ So it was almost like a throwback telling poeple, ‘If ya’ll don’t get on this, we already got it banging overseas.’ Another thing was just doing a record that was faster than anybody else’s. It’s still faster. Back in the day you had to perform you cuts and if you don’t do the cut, the cut’s gonna do you.” |
Some of the other rap albums that made the cut include: Dr. Dre’s Chronic, Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP, Outkast’s Speakerboxxx-Love Below, Beastie Boys’ License To Ill, Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Notorious B.I.G’s Life After Death, Eminem’s Eminem Show, Tupac’s All Eyez On Me, Nelly’s Country Grammar, NWA’s Straight Outta Compton, Jay-Z’s Blueprint, Will Smith’s Big Willie Style, Jay-Z’s Black Album, the Fugees’ Score, Tupac’s Me Against The World, Nas’ Illmatic, Jay-Z’s In My Lifetime Vol. 1, LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out, and Outkast’s Aquemini. |
