CHRISTOPHER WALKEN NEVER SET OUT TO BE AN ACTOR
Christopher Walken began his career as a song and dance man, falling into acting. |
New York born Christopher Walken grew up a showbiz kid taking dance classes in tap and ballet and began his career as a song and dance man on Broadway making his debut with a former Hofstra University classmate Liza Minelli in Best Foot Forward as well as touring with the 1964 production of West Side Story. |
His first movie musical was playing a villainous pimp in Pennies From Heaven. Starring in Hairspray as Wilbur Turnblad, the husband to John Travolta’s Edna, Christopher says his career as a serious actor was not what he set out to do. |
“I did a lot of musicals I would say till I was about 30. That’s what I did. Then I got a job in a play and from that I got a job in a movie. My career as an actor really is kind of accidental. I never set out to be an actor. I was in musicals.” |
Christopher shows off his love and Fred Astaire moves dancing with John Travolta as Edna Turnblad in the musical number You’re Timeless to Me. |
“I kind of think of him as Jack Sprat and he’s crazy about Edna. He’s a man madly in love after many years of marriage. Yeah I’m madly in love.” |
Next Christopher will star in the comedy Balls of Fury killing the father of a ping pong champion Dan Fogler. |
