CHRISTOPHER NOLAN PICKS UP BAT PHONE TO CAINE AND BALE

Christopher Nolan does a three part magic trick as director, writer and producer of The Prestige. Finding the perfect actors to play master illusionist Alfred Borden and Cutter for the film was as easy as picking up the bat phone to call Christian Bale and Michael Caine. |
Part of creating the movie illusion he had to choose an actor who was more of a showman than a magician. Christopher obviously isn’t a theater buff as he wasn’t aware of Hugh Jackman’s ability to command an audience which was needed for the role of magician Robert Angier. |
“Well when you work with great people you want to work with them again but Michael and Christian were so marvelous to work on Batman with and such talented performers. You naturally find yourself wanting to pick up the phone and get them involved in something else.” |
Rounding out the stellar cast are cameos from Ricky Jay, a magic consultant on the film who steps in as a magician and Andy Serkis playing the dutiful assistant to David Bowie’s scientist Tesla. The Prestige opens today in theaters nationwide.rn |
“Hugh turned out to be absolutely perfect for the role. I’d never seen him on stage. I knew he’d been in musicals but I wasn’t really aware of that side of his performing and that’s essential to the character. He’s able to present a character that not necessarily has the best natural affinity for magic but he’s the best showman and therefore the more successful magician. When Hugh gets on stage he absolutely comes to life.” |
