CHRISTIAN BALE BITES INTO MAGGOTS
Christian Bale has taken his extreme acting to the limit by eating real maggots as US Navy Pilot Dieter Dengler who is stranded in the Laotian jungle and captured as a POW when his plane goes down in Rescue Dawn. |
Christian describes what it was like to bite into the squirming insects. |
“Maggots are not a very memorable taste. All I asked them is they weren’t collecting the maggots from some part of dung nearby which I’m sure would’ve been a very different taste! I didn’t want that. It was more the texture than anything else but they’re not easy to describe and not very characterful really in it’s taste whatsoever. But not something that anybody would really have a huge aversion to; it’s mainly the visual, it’s mainly the sight of it that’s not good.” |
Some creatures were spared while trying to survive in the jungle as Christian explains. |
“I never actually ate a snake. I didn’t want to kill a snake for this. That wasn’t necessary so a little secret, we faked that one. We didn’t fake the capture of the snake and he got a bit of a chunk out of me.” |
Christian couldn’t get enough of eating insects. During the course of the film he would go to the local Thai market and purchase of bag of herb seasoned grasshoppers to munch on. Rescue Dawn opens July 4th in theaters nationwide.rn |
