CHRIS CORNELL EXCITED TO CARRY ON
Vocal legend, Chris Cornell is set to release his latest solo album, ‘Carry On’ and he couldn’t be more excited to be solo artist, which he says is where he belongs. |
Legendary lead vocalist, Chris Cornell, who was instrumental in the world wide success of both Soundgarden and Audioslave, is set to release his second solo album titled ‘Carry On.’ On the new album Cornell admitted he’s excited to return as a solo artist. He admitted he had the best time recording an album in his career. Cornell wrote the material on ‘Carry On’ six days after the recording finished on Audioslave’s last album ‘Revelations.’ |
We caught up with Cornell at the MusiCares MAP Benefit show, where he was being honored for his dedication and support of musicians recovering from addictions, to discuss his latest release and how excited he is to have it finished and ready for release. |
“Actually this was all written and recorded after the third Audioslave record. So this was not like a work in progress at all. This was something I started on literally like six days after ‘Revelations’ was finished. It was quickly written and recorded. I think there was only one song that was written previous to that time. So it’s all pretty fresh. And it’s been done for a while so I’m excited for it to come out.” |
Chris Cornell released his first solo record ‘Euphoria Morning’ in 1999 but decided to join Audioslave in 2001, instead of fully committing to a solo career. But after Audioslave had run it’s course and Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk reunited with Zack de la Rocha to hit the road with Rage Against the Machine again, it seems with ‘Carry On’ Cornell is where he wanted to be the whole the time. We also talked with Chris about having the best time in the studio of his career with ‘Carry On.’ |
“Yeah, it’s really where I think I want to be all the time. I had the best time ever in my career writing this record. It was really fun.” |
Cornell has been thrilling crowds in the initial small run of club dates by performing with a heavy hitting four piece band and running through a plethora of material from Soundgarden to Audioslave to Temple of the Dog and to his solo material. Chris is on his way to Europe for a tour which kicks off May 15th in Paris, France and extends until May 24th in Milan, Italy. Cornell and his band will then head back to the US with dates beginning May 26th in Indiana. You can also check out the new video for the single “No Such Thing” from the album ‘Carry On’, which will be available June 5th. |
