CHLOE SEVIGNY MEETS MRS. GRAYSMITH

Chloe Sevigny, the queen of indie films makes the move to mainstream with Zodiac playing the wife of Robert Graysmith, the San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist determined to find the serial killer.

Chloe got a bit more insight into her character when the real Mrs. Graysmith visited the set.

“I actually only got to meet the woman who I play Melanie. She came to the set with one of her children and she lasted a few hours and we spoke. Not at length but a little bit about her relationship with her husband. And how consumed he got and how early on in their relationship it happened. You know I was kind of playing her a little bit more vulnerable. And when I met the real woman she had a real kind of sass and spunk, and I thought maybe I should add a little element of that to the character.”

Chloe was surprised Melanie hung in the relationship as long as she did because Robert Graysmith played by Jake Gyllenhaal was so obsessed with catching the Zodiac killer he neglected his family.

“Our relationship falls apart as Jake’s character becomes more and more obsessed with the Zodiac killer. And they’re constantly having these crank calls and she’s convinced it’s the Zodiac and he knows where they live and he’s gonna come and he’s gonna get the children. She can’t believe that he would contact this serial killer. And she kind of gets to the end of her tether, she can’t deal with it anymore. She says you either have to finish whatever you’re doing with this or what you’re doing. She can’t even figure out, he’s not gonna be able to arrest this guy so why is he investing so much time into it? She said either you finish it or I’m leaving and in the end she had to leave.”

Chloe is gearing up for the second season of HBO’s Big Love where her sister wife Nicki gets even deeper into her mounting debts.
