CHIODOS DRUMMER NABBED BY LONG WHIP OF THE LAW
Chiodos has gone to great lengths on the Taste Of Chaos tour to play for fans, and their drummer recently experienced some chaos on his own. Derrick Frost decided to take his partying to another level during the recent tour stop in Ohio, and he found himself under arrest. |
Frost was released and had to come back for his court appearance, but he’s not done yet. He told us that it all stemmed from what the band calls their Bum Jam, which they like to do after their sets. |
“Every night our guitar player and our guitar tech play for kids out front. We call it bum jams. Basically we do it for extra cash, food, this and that. So they were playing one night, and I’m usually the guy that gets the kids to come over, like, talks them into coming over and throwing a dollar in, throwing twenty-five cents in or whatever. Things got a little out of hand and I ended up running across a car, but I didn’t know it was a cop car, so, it was just a white vehicle unmarked, and the next thing I know there’s some big security guards just man handling me, and I’m sitting in the security office and our tour manager is getting me out of jail a couple of hours later.” |
He was asked to clarify what he meant by “running in front of a car” and the exact charges including reckless endangerment. |
“That’s pretty much it, yeah, and I got criminal destruction. I don’t know how a 150 pound kid can bend a metal car, but I guess we’ll find out when I get to that last court date. If you look it up on YouTube.com it’s called ‘Ghost Riding The Whip.’ That’s pretty much the best way to describe what happened. It’s definitely and epidemic I guess, huh? For me my personality is very outgoing and spontaneous, and I’ve always just done what I want and not thought about it. I definitely learned my lesson this time. You gotta think a little more before you do everything that you do.” |
Frost was responsible and made the 10 hour trip from New York City and back, but his Ghost Riding The Whip antics cost them a chance to play the Boston area show. A warrant would have been issued for his arrest had he not showed. |
“The court proceeding went… I drove ten hours there she told me, ‘You know how important it is to be here?’ I was like, ‘Yes, ma’am I definitely understand. I just drove ten hours from New York City to be here and we had to cancel a show the next day in Boston because I have to be here.’ She’s like, ‘OK, that’s nice.’ She basically asked me, ‘Are you guilty or innocent,’ and I pled ‘No Contest,’ so I have to go back to court now again. I drove twenty hours for a sheet of paper, which is a good thing, because we have to go to Canada soon. I can’t have a warrant out for my arrest because I’m either not getting into Canada that’s for sure, and I’m definitely going to jail. So it was definitely worth the drive, and it really wasn’t that bad.” |
Frost has to go back to court at a later date, but the judge respected Frost’s touring schedule with the band. Taste Of Chaos wraps up April 8 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Chiodos is out supporting their album All’s Well That Ends Well, but they’re working on a new album they hope to complete later this year. |
