CHEVELLE READIES VENA SERA
Chevelle looks to release their new album Vena Sera in April, and the band talked about their unique method of lyric writing. |
Chevelle is set to release their new album, Vena Sera, on April 3, and the first single from the new effort is “Well Enough Alone.” The collection is the band’s first since 2004’s This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In), which spawned “The Clincher” and “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)” among others. |
The band is fronted by Pete Loeffler with brother Sam Loeffler doing the honors behind the drum kit. Sam talked about how lyrics are crafted for Chevelle. |
“Very little do we collaborate on lyrics. Pete’s very arty about his stuff, you know? I’ll make suggestions for words that fit better here and there and things like that. But other than that, he’ll pretty much write everything and then he’ll say, ‘Does this work or does this not work?’ That’s about the only input I have with lyrics other than generalizing things.” |
Sam also talked about their one steadfast rule for songwriting. |
“We made a decision a long time ago to not rhyme in songs because I feel like that’s a little bit…a lot of people will take the way out where a rhyme — maybe it sounds good in a certain place and in another place they’re just doing it because they don’t want to spend time to think about a better way to say that. So we made a decision that Pete was not going to write any rhymes and that he was just going to lyric everything to that it’s practically a poem. And I think that makes for a much more intelligent song.” |
Chevelle will be hitting the road in 2007 in support of Vena Sera, but dates have not been announced at press time. Songs for the collection include: “Antisaint,” “Brainiac,” “Saferwaters,” “Well Enough Alone,” “Straight Jacket Fashion,” “The Fad,” “Humanoid,” “Paint The Seconds,” “Midnight To Midnight,” and “I Get It” “Saturdays” |
