CATE BLANCHETT SEEKS TO PERSONALLIZE SCANDAL
Cate Blanchett, star of the movie Notes On A Scandal says the film is more about havoc than a platform on modern-day stagitory rape. |
Cate Blanchett, Bill Nighy and Judi Dench star in Notes On A Scandal, which opened to a limited release earlier this week. Blanchett stars as a pottery teacher who falls in love with one of her students and embarks on an illicit affair. |
Blanchett said that she wants moviegoers to focus not on the morality or legality of such actions, but on the consequences on all the families involved. |
“I think it’s really important to realize that it’s not a court case. It’s actually a dramatic work, and it’s a thrilling ride for an audience because there is no way to repair the damgage that is done by what Sheeba does, and what Barbara does as well. And there’s no way to justify it, and Sheeba sort of seeks to because people are wanting to know why. But why we embark on any damaging relationship or friendship is ultimately described in a very trite way like, ‘I love him or… but there’s no way of justifying it. It’s too complicated.” |
She talked about how Notes On A Scandal takes place without media involvement that usually accompanies situations like the one portrayed in the film. |
“You know that the damage is so enormous and the people, say the family of say the boy in this case and the people surrounding the woman in this case who commits the crime needs the privacy to find some peace because it’s so enormous for them.” |
Notes On A Scandal, despite its limited release, is up for three Golden Globe nominations, and she’s got consideration also for her role in The Good German and Babel. |
