CATE BLANCHETT HAS AFFAIR TO REMEMBER
Cate Blanchett says playing former lover of George Clooney in The Good German was an affair to remember. |
Cate Blanchett describes George Clooney as the best dinner party guest in the world. Cate got to know the self-effacing sexiest man alive playing his former love in The Good German. |
She describes what it was like working with him. |
“He’s so difficult, so humorless, so unengaged in the world and so talentless. I think what he’s done in the Good German is really remarkable because he’s incredibly self-aware and able to harness his public and screen persona and then sort of subvert it. There’s not a lot of actors who would be as egoless as George. I mean it’s almost comic to the degree which Jake gets beaten up. He’s like the down-trodden sort of anti-hero. And I think a lot of guys would’ve found that a bit battering to their own ego.” |
On the set of The Good German Cate says her character forever changed by the war when Clooney’s character finds her again was an affair to remember. |
“The most important thing is that they were in love and so that’s the thing that I’ve carried as opposed to the details of what she did with Jake that hasn’t seemed to me as important images to hold in my head. It was a great love but also it was an affair and it was illicit so were they ever pure. Was their relationship ever pure. It was always romantic because it was an affair.” |
Cate has another affair in Notes On a Scandal which is a bit more salacious. She plays a pottery teacher who falls for her student, coming soon. The Good German opens today. |
