Cage the Elephant are currently in the studio working on their highly anticipated follow up album to their hugely successful self titled debut album, which hit The Billboard Top 200 Chart at #99 upon it’s release in 2008. Riding the wave of their hit single “Aint No Rest for the Wicked” which peaked at #3 on The Billboard Rock Single Chart, Cage the Elephant will once again be working with producer Jay Joyce down in Nashville, TN. Consisting of brothers Matt and Brad Shultz, Cage the Elephant can already sense their growth as musicians as they look to release the album in early 2010. |
Artisan News caught up with Cage the Elephant to get their thoughts on looking to reinvent themselves and growing musically on their upcoming new album. |
“There’s still a lot of energy. It’s still us we just kind of wanted to reinvent ourselves. I don’t know and do something different. I think it’s kind of like, we just changed. People change and you want to do different stuff. It’s kind of like if you ate a slice of pizza everyday for a year, you’d want something different than pizza, you know what I’m saying. So, I think we grew as people and musically you start to crave and hunger different things and once that happens you also want to do different things with your own music. Basically we about ten, eleven songs recorded for our new album and we’re going to go back and do a few more. Yeah I think we’ll go back in the studio and do six more songs or something like that. Hopefully it will come out in January.” |
After turning heads and winning over a legion of new fans after their performance at Bonnaroo, Cage the Elephant will next be performing June 28th at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wi. Cage the Elephant has tour dates booked with Silversun Pickups until August 22nd in Hillsboro, Or with stops at Lollapalooza, All Points West and Fuji Rock Festival. The band will also be performing on David Letterman on July 30th. |
