BRITTANY MURPHY STUDIED DRUGS FOR THE DEAD GIRL

Brittany Murphy wanted to know the exact chemical breakdown of crack for her character in The Dead Girl.

Brittany Murphy took on a methodical approach to her role in The Dead Girl playing a runaway who becomes a prostitute and a crack addict, by studying the affects the drug has on the human body.

Brittany also grilled first time director Karen Moncrieff about her character Krista’s exact type of drug intake and met with recovered addicts as well.

“I did meet with a drug counselor to see the chemical break down of what this does to the human body. I watched a lot of footage of people who used the drugs that Krista used and found out from Karen very specifically, I wanted to know exactly chemically what kind of drugs she was using because it wasn’t exactly specific in the script except for the crack. And Karen also mentioned that she is definitely bipolar so I always believe she was self-medicating for that reason and that allows for very high highs and low lows. I spoke with a lot of recovered addicts as well.”

The Dead Girl features a quintet of stories also starring Toni Collette and Marcia Gay Harden about people’s lives that converge around the murder of a young woman.
