BRENDA BLETHYN BALANCES CAREER WITH MOTHERHOOD IN FILM
Brenda Blethyn stars in Introducing The Dwights as a once successful British comedienne on the threshold of a wonderful career in comedy but 25 years later she can’t keep up with the young vibrant audiences. |
With her career in the balance she holds onto motherhood when both her sons are falling in love.rn |
“No she doesn’t want to let him go but I think there’s a different dynamic between mother and son than mother and daughter. When a daughter marries she stays within the bosom of the family, but when the son marries he’s adopted into the bosom of the wife’s family. And I think here she is at the time in her life when her career’s let her down, it’s failed and both sons are falling in love. And she feels like she’s not going to be needed anymore.” |
Brenda talks about being able to balance a demanding job with being a mother.rn |
“Most actors I know with children are fabulous parents. It’s a job. It’s like being a bricklayer or you know, a carpenter. It’s kind of hard if you have to go away all the time. There was a lot of talk about that very thing when some British soldiers were captured in Iraq and one of them was a female soldier who’s a mother. What on earth is she doing fighting out in the desert? You know some jobs take us away from home, stewardesses on airplanes. They find a way of working it out. You know the fathers there usually.” |
