BRAD AND ANGELINA GET TO THE HEART OF FREE PRESS
Hollywood’s hottest couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share their views on free press at A Mighty Heart premiere in New York. |
Hollywood’s most famous couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie came to New York to celebrate the premiere of A Mighty Heart. Based on the true story by journalist Mariane Pearl whose crumbling world became front page news when her husband Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl was beheaded by Pakistani terrorists while on assignment to learn the truth about shoe bomber Richard Reid. |
Angelina who portrays Pearl, discusses the challenges of bringing justice to the woman, who at six months pregnant held vigil with local police officials and the FBI while they searched for answers. |
“I have a great respect for journalists and every day I’m often looking to find, to get a shuffle through everything to find the real heart of the information and from somebody that knows and that’s in the know and has spent the time and is willing to give the honest straight story. So that’s them and those are the people I would look to and I think that’s true freedom of the press, not the freedom of the press to say silly things but the freedom of the press to get to the heart of real information.” |
Brad, whose Plan B Entertainment produced A Mighty Heart is adamant about Reporters Without Borders, an international organization devoted to freedom of the press. |
“It’s this profound and firm belief that we need journalism to really understand the dynamics and complexities of the situation before we can make informed decisions. And without it we’re rudderless. And this is key and we seem to be as our world speeds up and we rely more on soundbites we seem to be losing context and it’s to our detriment.” |
A Mighty Heart opens June 22 in theaters nationwide. |
