BOBCAT GOLDTHWAITE WANTS TO BE CALLED BOBCAT

(VIDEO) Even though Bobcat Goldthwaite has attained the status of filmmaker, he refuses to be called any other name but Bobcat.

It was Shakespeare who said what’s in a name but to Bobcat Goldthwaite it means everything. Now that he has directed his third feature with Sleeping Dogs Lie he has no plans to take on the more professional name of Bob. The comedian still prefers to be credited as Bobcat because calling himself Bob would be taking himself too seriously.

Bobcat’s real name is Robert Francis Goldthwaite but you’ll never see that name on a marquee. Sleeping Dogs Lie directed by Bobcat Goldthwaite opens Friday.rn

“Somewhere someone didn’t put Bobcat on something but I still go as Bobcat. In the credits it still says Bobcat Goldthwaite. I don’t want people to think I take myself serious like I’m an auteur or something now. I’m still Bobcat Goldthwaite I hope. I don’t really care too much about being taken seriously because if I wasn’t me and heard that Bobcat Goldthwaite wanted to be called Bob suddenly I probably would not stop vomiting. It would be like Ricky Schroeder wanting to be Richard Schroeder or something. I can understand being called Rick because you’re a grown man but I’m 44 and people call me Bobcat and I’m fine with that.”
