BOB HOSKINS FANCIES THE FIFTIES FOR HOLLYWOODLAND
(VIDEO) Hollywoodland star Bob Hoskins who plays MGM studio head Eddie Mannix liked the Hollywood of the 1950s. |
Bob Hoskins stars as Eddie Mannix in Hollywoodland, the studio boss of MGM back in the heyday of the 1950s who was also a bit of a thug. Bob fancies what it would’ve been like to live in those days. |
In the film Adrien Brody’s detective Louis Simo has a hunch that Eddie might’ve had something to do with TV Superman George Reeve’s death as he was carrying on an affair with Eddie’s wife Toni. |
“They’ve always got a drink in their hand. They’re always smoking a cigarette. They’ve always got some woman on their arm. It must’ve been an amazing time.” |
Apparently the times weren’t as amazing for George Reeves who Bob says found himself famous for all the wrong reasons. |
“His relationship with Toni was so extraordinary. There was a man who was capable of killing you, also capable of loving you to death as well. He was capable of real sort of affection which was extraordinary when you think about what the guy was, how tough he was.” |
Next Bob Hoskins will be seen in the film Sparkle which has him returning to his native UK. Hollywoodland opens Friday in theaters. rn |
“He was the most famous man in the world at one point. He was Superman. To suddenly find yourself in a situation in your chosen career with all you can do is dress up in tights and a cape with a big ‘S’ on your chest, is not much of a career is it really if you’ve got talent?” |
