Blue October’s latest album, Foiled, made its debut at a respectable Number 29, but their latest single, “Hate Me,” is currently charting at Number Three on the Alternative rock chart. |
The band recently hit The Roxy in Los Angeles as part of their tour in support of Foiled, and vocalist/songwriter Justin Furstenfeld said that “Hate Me” is an apology to all the people that he hurt while suffering through personal issues. |
“It’s mainly about relationships in general, and when you’re in a low place you don’t really think about other people. And it’s basically an apology to people that you hurt in the past and maybe giving them advice that maybe you’re not the best person to be hanging out with. I don’t know. It’s just mainly a big apology to people I’ve hurt in the past and asking for forgiveness for some of the issues that I was going through.” |
Blue October is slowly gaining popularity on the west and east coast, but they’ve been a Midwest favorite for years. Furstenfeld dispelled the notion that the music only relates to a Midwestern mentality. |
“We’ve gotten a… The only reason I would say that is because we’ve toured through the midwest our whole career, you know? And we’ve never had enough money to come to the east coast or west coast and now that we’re succeeding on some of the stations we’re being asked to come out here. So it’s actually broadening and opening up our bases from just midwest an to east and west coast. It’s easy to go straight up and straight back down. But going over here (motions west coast) to over there (motions east coast)it’s a little expensive, but we’re very lucky to be able to do that now.” |
Blue October will play headline shows and radio festivals through May 29, where dates currently wrap in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band is also set for Lollapalooza on August 4. |
