Blue October has gone through several personnel changes during its history, but one change that will never be made is the one between vocalist Justin Furstenfeld and his brother Jeremy.

The duo started the band in the late 90s, but Justin’s first songwriting leanings started at age 14 in response to the stresses of life he was experiencing at the time. Jeremy and Justin talk about how the brothers complement one another.

[Jeremy] “I think we did all of our younger fighting when we were kids, you know, and when he got bigger than me I stopped messing with him. He’s still bigger than me, so…” [Justin] “It’s basically, I’m a very passive person, and he’s not. So when things come up that need to be taken care of, he always has my back. I’ll sit there, and I’ll go, ‘It’s Ok, it’s OK,’ and he’ll go, ‘no, no, no. It’s not OK.’ It’s great to have him here because he always has got my back.”

For the record, Jeremy is older than Justin by fourteen months. Blue October released their first album, The Answers, in 1998.
