BIG HEAD TODD GETTING A BIRDS EYE VIEW WITH ARCHIVE DISC
Big Head Todd and The Monsters, who believe it or not, have been playing music and touring the world together for close to twenty years now, are set to release From the Archives Volume 1, their archive series of songs recorded from the earliest stage of the band. Even though the band has been releasing new music to their fans via the internet on a regular basis, they felt the time was right to treat their fans to a glimpse of what they sounded like many years ago. |
We caught up with guitarist Todd Park Mohr, drummer Brian Nevin and bassist Rob Squires of Big Head Todd and The Monsters to discuss what their fans will be getting with Volume 1 of the archived disc series. |
“It’s material that we thought was interesting that hasn’t gotten out there. I know fans have been clamoring for some of that stuff so we put it together in a package for those of you interested in seeing the old Big Head Todd and the Monsters and some of the more behind the scenes stuff, demos and the like that’s the deal with it. Most of it actually is when we first were getting started as a band and as first starting out writing so it’s pretty early. Most of it’s fifteen years old plus. So it’s kind of neat to get a bird’s eye view of us when we were young.” |
So after going through countless hours of old material, demo tapes, rehearsal jams and outtakes, was it a difficult decision to pare down the song selection ? |
“Our sound man went through because he’s been with us a long time and he went through a lot of old tapes and kind of pared it down and there were some that I think Todd said ‘No, I don’t want that going out.’ So this is a batch of some of that broad based material that we were OK with fans having a look at.” |
From The Archives Volume One of Big Head Todd and The Monsters can be purchased directly via the band’s website. It is also they place Big Head Todd and The Monsters have been releasing new material and keeping fresh in between album cycles. We also spoke with Todd about constantly releasing new material for the fans. |
“Yeah, absolutely one of the magical things about the internet and podcasting and that sort of thing is it allows us to constantly be releasing new music and writing new music and it’s been really fun for me because I can look at songs as an individual and without having to think of a larger context or anything and it’s been really freeing from that standpoint too.” |
Big Head Todd and The Monsters are also currently in the studio working on new material for their upcoming new album, which the band hopes to release in the next few months. It was also announced Big Head Todd’s music will be taking a trip into Space as one of the astronauts traveling to The International Space Station aboard Discovery happens to be a fan of the band and will be bringing a few CD’s for the crew to listen to while traveling the galaxy in zero gravity. Look for more info on the band’s thoughts on this amazing honor in the coming weeks. |
