Ben Harper and Billy Asher of Asher guitars have teamed up to create the Ben Harper Model II Electric Lap Steel guitar. The first Ben Harper signature series lap steel guitar was introduced in 1998 and since then Ben and Billy have been in the process of fine tuning the perfect instrument. The Harper Series II Limited Edition will feature a flame maple top with cherry sunburst finish and a pair of Seymour Duncan Custom Shop ’59-Style Humbuckers pick ups. |
We caught up recently with Ben Harper who is currently in the midst of his world tour in support of his latest release, the two disc ‘Both Sides of the Gun’, to discuss his thoughts on The Harper Model II and the fact that Ben compares it to the electric equivalent of the acoustic weisenborn guitars, is quite impressive to say the least. |
“Billy and I had been working on getting that guitar together for the last five or six years and he really nailed it with this one. I’m as excited about having that guitar in the world as much as my music really. It’s that amazing of an electric (guitar). That electric lap steel is the electric equivalent of how I feel about the Weissenborns.” |
This special Limited Edition will be available exclusively through Asher Guitars and the Folk Music Center. Production will be limited to only 100 instruments, each bearing signature logos of both Ben Harper and Bill Asher and this model will also come with a special signed limited edition certificate of authenticity. With the first production run in 1998 of the Ben Harper Model I guitar selling out and increasing in value with each passing year one can bet that the model II will do the same and it’s become not just an instrument for people trying to sound like Ben, but it’s also become a wise investment as well. |
