BEHEMOTH RELEASES EVANGELION, BUT NOT WITHOUT CONTROVERSY
Blackened Metal band Behemoth released their new album, Evangelion, and already it’s causing an upoar. |
Behemoth released their new album Evangelion, which hit stores on Tuesday, August 11. The Polish Blackened Metal band is enjoying their greatest exposure in the United States due to their appearance on the Mayhem Festival. The group is also causing quite a controversy for the graphic video for “Ov Fire And The Void.” |
The clip was rejected by MySpace and banned by YouTube, and they put a slightly edited version up. We asked vocalist Nergal if they knew it would cause so much controversy. |
“I kind of sensed it. I mean the script was really well written, and the story line was awesome. I’m a big fan of it, and we put it together in a very nice way, and to be honest, I got the video a few days ago, and we did about two or three extra tweaks, and the video was almost perfect from the beginning. We were very eager to get it out to people. And when we did last night, yesterday actually, we put it on YouTube, and after two hours it was banned. I was a little big bummed about it, but I think I even like it more. The fact that it was banned. It was like, ‘You know what? This means we still do not compromise. We don’t give a f–k. We’re still dangerous and disturbing, and that’s what this band and this music has always been about, not to compromise. After all, I’m happy with what happened to the video.” |
The band also said that the leak of the album might have helped them, and the music’s appearance in the video game Rock Band can only help. |
“Like, lately our song was recently added to Rock Band, which is a new thing for us, a new dimension I would say. Probably a few year’s back I’d be a bit more skeptical about it, but now I’m like, ‘You know what? I need to adapt.’ I want to catch up with new technologies, and what kids like, you know what I mean, if I really want to reach out to these kids. So I’m actually happy about everything that’s happened. You know what? To be honest, I’m even happy that our album, the fact that it leaked to the internet four weeks before the release date was good because I could check myself how people love this record, you know what I mean, before it was even out. So, you know what? People think it’s awesome. That’s a good sign. I really hope that they’re going to buy it.” |
Behemoth was on Mayhem through August 16. The unedited video for “Ov Fire And The Void” can be seen on their homepage. |
