AVENGED SEVENFOLD SAYS NEW ALBUM FOR FANS, NOT TRL SET
Avenged Sevenfold is set to release their self-titled album in October, and singer Matt Shadows wants to appeal to fans rather than TRL. |
Avenged Sevenfold is set to release their self-titled album on October 16 right in time for the gothic themed band’s fans to pick it up in time for Halloween. A single hasn’t yet been decided for the follow-up to their commercial breakthrough album, City Of Evil. |
Vocalist Matt Shadows said that the band is making an album for Avenged kids and not the TRL set. |
“I just think that you do everything… I look at the kids out at the shows and they’re all Avenged kids. They’re not radio kids, they’re not this or that. They know every song from all the records, and that’s what I think is so healthy about Avenged Sevenfold. It’s a success, but it’s still going up I think. We’ll know when it peaks out, but right now the shows are getting bigger, the kids are the right kind of kids. You could get the wrong kind of kids. You know we don’t want a bunch of TRL fans and all this crap. You have to get kids and conform them to what we are and not conform to what they are. So, in that sense yes, it’s a success so far.” |
Shadows said that their smash single “Bat Country” saved their major label careers and there are heightened expectations dealing with album sales. |
“I think anytime you sign to a major label if your record doesn’t work, your band is pretty much done. You’ll never get picked up again. As soon as a band starts going down, I’m sure it messes with your band’s demeanor. You kind of get bummed out. So, I think signing to a major label is a big step for any band. I think that we were lucky enough to do it after doing two independent records and selling as many records as we did on an independent. So we had a lot of say and a lot of push from the label. If ‘Bat Country’ didn’t do anything our band could’ve been in a lot of trouble right now. If you do 150,000 records on a major label you’re gonna get dropped, you know?” |
The complete track listing includes Critical Acclaim, Almost Easy, Scream, Afterlife, Gunslinger, Unbound (The Wild Ride), Brompton Cocktail, Lost, A Little Piece of Heaven, and Dear God. |
