Austin City Limits once again demonstrated why Austin, Texas is one of America’s most musically historical cities, just behind New Orleans and Chicago. Boasting 130 acts on 3 stages over 3 days Austin City Limits the festival celebrated it’s fifth year in existence with performances by John Mayer, Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips, The Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Massive Attack and The Shins to name just a few. Austin City Limits the Festival grew out of the major success of the TV Show by the same name which started back in 1975 and has continued to showcase incredible live music ever since. |
Austin once again opened it’s arms to musicians and fans alike with a three day festival and amazing late night performances held around the city in small clubs. We caught up with G Love who is currently touring in support of his latest release, ‘Lemonade’ to discuss the fact that although Bonnaroo and Lolapalooza might get all the hype, it’s Austin City Limits that is an underdog festival that featuring quite a diverse lineup and he couldn’t be more happy to be apart of it once again. |
“You know, this festival is kind of like the underdog festival. Because Bonnaroo and Lolapalooza get a lot more hype behind them you know but this is equally as big a festival and even bigger than those festivals. I think that this festival has no pretense you know there’s no pretensciousness at this festival, because of the fact that it’s kind of an underdog I find that’s it’s purely a music festival and they have acts that are both cutting and edge and great live acts and they have country stuff and more folk and singer songwriter oriented. So, it’s a pretty eclectic bag of music so it’s a good thing and I’m happy to be a part of it.” |
We also caught up with Ben Kweller who also is touring in support of his latest release titled ‘Ben Kweller’ to discuss Austin City Limits and the city of Austin, which is Ben’s favorite citiy around the world. |
“I grew up North of Dallas is a small town called Greenville, Texas and I love the South, I love Texas, I love the warm weather, but my favorite city in the world is Austin. One day I really want to move here and get a house in the city and one day a little farm on the outskirts. The people are very open minded here, the music community is amazing and everything about it, I love the outdoorsness to the city, it’s very green and there’s a lot of outdoor activity and things you can do. So, it’s my favorite place now and my favority city has one of the best festivals in the world and it really is. Austin City Limits Festival is one of the best and I’ve played most of them throughout the globe.” |
With a stunning lineup featuring legendary artists and lesser known up and coming talent from the world of Rock and Roll, Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Reggae and everything in between, Austin City Limits in just five short years continues to build off the success of Austin City Limits Television series and the genuine southern hospitality that Austin, Texas has to offer. Look for another tremendously diverse festival lineup and night show series set around one of Americas hippest cities in 2007. (Pictured above Willie Nelson photo Brian Yates.) |
