AMY WINEHOUSE DOMINATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRAMMY AWARDS WITH 5 WINS
British Pop vocalist Amy Winehouse took home 5 Grammy Awards and turned in a sensational performance via satellite from London |
Although originally denied a visa and not able to attend the ceremonies in Los Angeles, California, British Pop sensation Amy Winehouse still managed to have a spectacular night gathering 5 Grammy Awards at the 50th Anniversary Grammy Awards. Winehouse, who performed her hit song ‘Rehab’ via satellite in London took home Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Song of the Year for ‘Rehab’, Best Female Pop Performance for ‘Rehab,’ Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Back to Black’ and Record of the Year for ‘Rehab.’ Winehouse’s five awards out of six nominations were the most awards taken home by anyone and she only lost out to Herbie Hancock’s ‘River: The Joni Letters’ for Album of the Year. Kanye west took home four Grammy Awards out of his eight nominations, which was second most to Winehouse. |
In a televised speech via satellite from London just after her performance, Winehouse went on to thank the people most important to her. |
“Hey. Thank you to everyone at Island Records, everyone at EMI Music Publishing, To Ray Ray and Joe. Ten Years this year, Ray Ray and Joe. To Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. To my Mom and Dad. For my Blake, my Blake incarcerated and for London. This is for London because Camden town ain’t burning down!” |
Mark Ronson, who produced Amy’s hit album ‘Back to Black’ also won a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year. Backstage after winning his Grammy, Ronson talked about wishing Amy had been granted her Visa so they could both share their amazing night together. |
“Yeah, I wish she was here just as like having your mate next to you and just the fact that you know you’ve been through this ride together and created a record and this tonight is really the pinnacle of that because this is the most prestigious night in music. So of course I wanted to share it with her but the I.N.S. had other plans.” |
Amy Winehouse is also up for a Brit Award for her collaboration on the single ‘Valerie’ with Mark Ronson. The single which was produced by Ronson, on which Amy sings vocals, is up for the Best British singlernwhich is voted for by the public. |
