ALLMAN BROTHERS TRUCKS HAS BIG PLANS FOR INTERACTIVE CONCERTS
Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers shares his vision of his latest project Moogis which brings live streaming concerts across the internet |
The Allman Brothers Band are in the midst of their 40th Anniversary Tour and 2009 already started out with the bands most historic run of shows at The Beacon Theater in New York. With a stunning list of guests including the bands first ever live performance with Eric Clapton as well as Phil Lesh and Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Buddy Guy, Levon Helm of The Band, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell of Phish, Jimmy Herring and John Bell of Widespread Panic and Jazz legends Randy Brecker, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White to name just a few, The Allman Brothers Band celebrated perhaps their best run of shows at The Beacon in their storied history. And what better way for the band to bring these incredible shows to their fans than with drummer Butch Trucks latest project, Moogis. Streaming live concerts with multiple cameras filming in high definition with crystal clear audio, Moogis certainly brings the live experience into fans living rooms as well as a place where fans can interact with their friends in chat rooms. |
Artisan News caught up with Butch Trucks to get his thoughts on the concept of Moogis. |
“There’s a new model that has to be coming along that gives the artist and fans a place to get together to hear new music, to buy music, to sell music, to play music, to listen to music and that place has got to be the internet. So, I started to work on the Moogis model about four years ago and our first run with it was The Beacon run with The Allman Brothers this year in March. The concept is to stream live concerts over the internet with a chat room where you can go and sit and talk with your friends. I mean the underlying theme of the whole Moogis things is you can watch live music, but it’s also a place where you can go and hang out with your friends.” |
Butch also talked about his future vision and long term plans for Moogis. |
“What I plan to do with Moogis is to wire up about five of the top Jam Band clubs around the country and we’ll be doing this over the next year or so and get Moogis to where it’s up and running every day. Every night you’ll be able to see new live concerts from one of those five or six clubs from one of the younger bands that are around. And maybe a couple of times per month we’ll take a mobile unit out and do a larger venue with The Allman Brothers or Dave Matthews or Phish or The Dead, you know the bigger bands.” |
Trucks also talked about Moogis being a great place for fans of Jam Band music to stream live shows and discover new bands all while hanging out with their friends. |
“Kids come home from school now and they go on the internet and they go to Facebook or where ever their friends are and they go and hang out with them. What’s not on the internet right now is a place like Moogis where kids who really love Jam Band music can go and hang out with their friends and talk about Jam Bands. Phish, The Allman Brothers, The Dead, Dave Matthews, Disco Biscuits you know, there’s hundreds of good young new bands out there.” |
The Allman Brothers Band are continuing on with their 40th Anniversary Tour with an amazing list of special guests who have joined the band onstage including a two night run at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles May 19th and 20th, which featured Tom Petty along with Heart Breakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, Derek Truck’s wife and guitar virtuoso Susan Tedeschi, Conan O’Brien’s Horn section, Bruce Willis on harmonica and the bands first ever live performance of “I Shot the Sheriff” with Ziggy Marley. The Allman Brothers Tour will extend until The Mountain Jam in New York on May 31st. On June 5th and 6th The Allman Brothers will once again be performing at their Wanee Festival along side such bands as Gov’t Mule, The Doobie Brothers, Buddy Guy, Little Feat, Keller Williams, Bill Kreutzmann’s BK3, Umphrey’s McGee, Derek Trucks Band and The Drive By Truckers to name just a few.
